About Sorbonne

Sorbonne University Paris is a world famous university for higher education located in the French capital of Paris. The university is popularly known as La Sorbonne University. Sorbonne University was officially established in 1257 by Robert de Sorbon.

Although Sorbonne University has been functioning for a long time, the various departments of the university were located outside of the campus. The legendary University of Paris disintegrated into 13 autonomous universities in 1971, of which only the first four are included in the historical Sorbonne building. Collège de Sorbonne or Sorbonne University houses four of these new universities. Earlier the Sorbonne University was dedicated only to the Faculties of Arts and Human Sciences, which changed after the other departments were introduced. The 4 universities are the New Sorbonne (Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris III), Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV), René Descartes University (Paris V) and the Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris I).
